What Causes Periodontal Disease?
Bacteria in dental plaque cause periodontal disease. The plaque collects in pockets, which form as spaces develop between gums and teeth. The deeper the pocket, the harder it is to remove the plaque. As the plaque collects, bacteria toxins start to dissolve the bone supporting teeth. As the supporting bone destroyed, your teeth become loose and you can lose your teeth. Early warning signs of gum disease include reddish and bleeding gums, gums which are swollen, puffy or tender, bad taste and bad breath. As the disease progresses, symptoms become more severe. Gums begin to recede, teeth start to look longer, pus appears between the teeth, teeth become loose, change their position and even the bite can change. If you are suffering from any of these signs, you have to eliminate them to maintain your Real Smile.
