periodontitis

Periodontal disease is usually painless, that’s why it is important to know the signs of its progressive stages. When healthy, gums are pink, do not bleed and are firmly attached to the teeth.
The earliest stage of gum disease is Gingivitis. Gums may be red, tender and swollen and may bleed easily when brushed or flossed. The next stage, Moderate Periodontitis, occurs when gums begin to separate from the teeth. Deep pockets start to develop around the teeth and tooth roots are exposed to plaque. Bad breath and a bad taste in the mouth are common.

With Advanced Periodontitis, gums recede, teeth look longer and the bone supporting the teeth is destroyed. Teeth will become loose and eventually need replacement. Periodontal disease is the number one reason for tooth loss. If you don’t want to loose your teeth and settle for dentures, then you have to stop the progression of Periodontal Disease to keep your Real Smile.
